Overview of Session:
The fastest growing and most in-demand tech occupations right now are Data Scientist and Machine Learning Engineer. In this interactive session, Asim Ansari and Owais Siddiqui will introduce you to data science and give an overview of how it is useful for businesses in multiple industries (tech, finance, healthcare, consulting, etc.). The session will also cover how to prepare for a successful career in data science and machine learning.
Presenter Profile:
1. Prof. Asim Ansari
Professor Asim Ansari is the William T. Dillard Professor of Marketing and an affiliate of the Data Science Institute at Columbia University. He has also taught students in many other universities in the world. He does research on internet recommendation systems, personalization, digital marketing, and Bayesian modeling of data. Professor Ansari has several publications in leading journals in Business. His work has been recognized via multiple awards and nominations. Professor Ansari has a B.E in mechanical engineering from Osmania University, PGDM from IIM-Bangalore, and a PhD in marketing from New York University.
2. Mr. Owais Siddiqui, Data Scientist, Amazon
Owais is a Data Scientist II at Amazon with experience in machine learning, big data analytics, data engineering and management. He is currently based out of Amazon’s New York office, but has worked on various projects at their Seattle (US HQ) and Luxembourg (EU HQ) offices in the past. Owais has developed pricing and product recommendation systems for Amazon’s B2B marketplace that have been deployed globally. Prior to Amazon, he worked as a Data Engineer at Deloitte and received the ‘Outstanding Award’ (highest employee recognition) for his contributions to various consulting and internal analytics projects. Owais completed his M.S. in computer science from the University of California – San Diego (UCSD) focusing on artificial intelligence and databases. Before that, he obtained a B.E in computer science at Osmania University (MJCET).
